Online Advising Page
Online advising is available for current students, visiting students, and students with prior college credit. Current students should submit their requests to their assigned faculty advisor. Visiting students and students with prior college credit should submit their requests to Advising Services. Details for each group of students appear below. New students are not eligible for online advising and must attend a ConnectSession prior to in-person advising.
As a current student, all of the following criteria must be met in order for you to be eligible for online advising:
Be admitted to a program as of last term or semester
Have an assigned academic advisor
Have enrolled in courses at least once during the previous three semesters
Have completed at least 17 credits of college coursework
If you meet all of these criteria, please contact your advisor. If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for online advising, you should schedule an appointment to see your faculty advisor in person. You can locate your advisor's contact information in Self-Service by selecting Student Planning, then Plan and Schedule, and choose the Advisor tab.
If your faculty advisor is not available, you are eligible for Drop-in Advising. Advisors will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in Advising Services, located in the Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center (Building 10) on Main Campus, room 10-200, and at the Orange County Campus on the dates and times listed on the Drop-in Advising web page.
Visiting Students and Students with Prior College Credit
Online advising is available for visiting students, and students who are new to Durham Tech and have completed 12 or more credit hours of college-level coursework. New and visiting students with less than 12 hours of college-level credit are not eligible to request online advising and must attend a ConnectSession orientation. If you meet the requirements for online advising, please complete the Online Advising Request form.
All visiting students and students with prior college credit must submit an official copy of college transcripts and placement test scores (if applicable) to the Student Records and Information office (for evaluation of transfer credits and verification of prerequisites. Do not attach a copy of your transcript to your request for online advising.
Transcripts should be submitted by the enrollment due date. Requests for online advising will only be approved if transcripts are received prior to the enrollment due date.
Visiting students who wish to see an advisor in person may do so during drop-in hours at Main Campus or the Orange County Campus.
Online Advising Request
Students who have met the criteria outlined above, may complete the Online Advising Request form.
Please allow up to five business days for a response to the request. Wait times are dependent upon the volume of requests made. The closer it gets to the start of classes the longer the response time will be.
Online advising for the Fall 2019 Mini-Session II semester is open until 5 p.m. on October 4, 2019. After that time and date, Durham Tech will no longer be accepting Online Advising Requests for the fall mini-session. Online Advising for Spring Semester 2020 will close at 5 p.m. on January 3, 2020. Students will need to come to campus to see an advisor to get their restriction lifted in order to register for courses.
