EMS Specialty Continuing Education Courses

Advanced training via online courses is offered for Anatomy and Physiology for Paramedics; American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); NAEMTAdvanced Medical Life Support Provider (AMLS) , Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and PALS Refresher, Prehospital Trauma Life Support Provider (PHTLS), and Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS); and Escaping Violent Encounters (EVE), Critical Care Transport Provider and Transport Review.

These courses are registration fee exempt for NC Public Safety Workers with proof of affiliation.


The ADA requires that “any private entity that offers examination or courses related to application, licensing, certification or credentialing for K-12 schools, secondary or postsecondary education, professional or trade purposes shall offer such examination or courses in a place and manner accessible to persons with disability or offer alternative accessible arrangements for such individuals .” (ADA Amendments Act of 2008 [P.L. 110-325])

EMS-3046A Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The P.A.L.S. course is designed to certify Emergency Medical Personnel in Pediatric Advanced Life Support through the American Heart Association. This course teaches the proper evaluation and treatment of a pediatric patient in cardiopulmonary arrest. Upon successful completion, the student will be awarded P.A.L.S. certification from the American Heart Association. Pre-requisite: It is desirable but not required that an ALS certification be held.

EMS-3048A ACLS Refresher

This course follows the standard American Heart Association guidelines. It provides physicians, nurses, paramedics and other health care providers with information concerning advanced management of the cardiac patient.
