Center for the Global Learner
The Center for the Global Learner was created in Fall 2009, to support Durham Tech’s vision of fostering intercultural understanding and the development of engaged global citizens.
The Center for the Global Learner leads and facilitates global engagement and intercultural understanding.
- Develop an understanding of global issues among our students and encourage them to experience other cultures
- Support the development of a local workforce ready to compete in a multi-national environment.
- Provide opportunities for international students to enroll in and complete programs
English as a Second Language (ESL) offers courses in English to non-native speakers at several locations in Durham and Orange counties.
Beyond Basic ESL offers core classes in Reading/Writing, Listening/Speaking, and Grammar, to teach the fundamentals of US English to internationals who wish to improve their English skills.
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a program designed to help students improve their skills in U.S. Academic English. Students entering this program already have the basics of English (or speak another variety of English), but need to improve their skills as it relates to college-level reading, writing, research, grammar, listening, and speaking. Students receive academic credit for these curriculum-based courses.
International Student Services assists students from all countries and backgrounds to pursue their education on our welcoming campus. Staff at the Center for the Global Learner can walk you through the process step-by-step or you can begin exploring the next steps on your own.
Study/Travel Abroad helps interested students research possible study/travel abroad programs based on their programs of study, their interests, and their goals. Durham Tech usually organizes one or more study/travel abroad group programs each year.
