Project Skilling Up Scholarship
Project Skilling Up provides help in exploring contemporary career paths and resources regarding employment possibilities in the area. For students who reside in Durham or Orange counties, Project Skilling Up can provide funding for tuition or books for curriculum and noncredit, continuing education training.
Project Skilling Up is for people and their family members who have been adversely affected by the changes in the tobacco farming industry over the past 20 years
You may be eligible for assistance if any of the following criteria are met:
You are a farmer who grows or has grown tobacco with a required quota, or have worked in the harvesting of tobacco.
You are a former employee of a tobacco manufacturing plant who lost his/her job.
You are a family member of one of the aforementioned people.
What do you need to do once you receive Project Skilling Up funding?
You will explore opportunities and develop a career plan; take the KeyTrain assessments to earn job skills credential(s); register for, attend, and complete classes; and then report on how the funding helped you in your job search or career.
