Language Continuing Education Courses

Students can broaden their worldview by taking Language courses at Durham Tech. Spanish and Italian courses expose students to another culture while teaching them basic communication and writing skills. The American Sign Language course is for those wanting to learn and better understand another side of the American English language.


 

SEF-CONI Conversational Italian

Begin to communicate orally using basic Italian words and phrases. Understand basic Italian spoken slower than normal pace and develop skills and coping strategies for filling in the gaps. Conducted mostly in Italian, this course is designed to increase your confidence in speaking, and in understanding others in a business or daily-life setting. During class meetings, students practice communicating about a variety of topics such as art, culture, business, and current events. Intermediate-level fluency is recommended prior to taking this course. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) No textbook is required.

CSP-4000GF Italian Is Fun Book One

This introductory course is intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Students will learn essential vocabulary and grammar to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. Italiano Essenziale I, Fundamentals of Italian, ISBN# 978-1567654349 is the required textbook. 48 hours. $130.

CSP-4000DJ Spanish Literature

This is an intermediate/advanced-level class that includes poetry and prose, fiction and non fiction, from 20th and 21st century Latin American writers. Students study their works for vocabulary and grammar usage, as well as for elements of style and interpretation of meaning. Join us to read some of the best contemporary literature as we improve our ability to communicate in Spanish. 24 Hours. $75

FLI-3717AK Advanced Spanish Literature

In this course, students read Spanish literature, including modern Spanish and Latin American prose and poetry, with grammar and vocabulary study as needed. Students read aloud to practice pronunciation. Conversation and presentations are also included to improve communication skills.
